About

A sonic artist and programmer with a fascination for history and geography.

I’m currently a senior lecturer with School of Film, Music and Performing Arts at Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University). My work focuses on exploring the role of the Romantic and esoteric imagination in creativity – particularly in terms of musical composition and accompanying reflexive, imaginative experience. I am developing this research into a PhD thesis titled The Occultural Orpheus: Esoteric Musicianship  the 21st Century (supervisors Prof. Karl Spracklen & Dr. Conrad Russell).

I worked for nearly a decade with Tonality Systems Press and the composer Nigel Morgan in a number of capacities: programmer, copyist, editor, sound designer, producer, co-author and research collaborator. I also played with the Leeds-based drone/experimental group Ashtray Navigations between 2004-08, and have released music under various monickers – such as Xenis Emputae Travelling Band, Peter Cora, Hawthonn, and even ‘Phil Legard’ – since 2001.

This blog is my attempt to consolidate my diverse interests, hitherto spread across three or four different mediums! Needless to say, this is a personal blog and any opinions expressed here are solely my own and not representative of my employers, colleagues, friends, etc.

Here are my Academia and University Research profiles.
